CBD Beginner’s Guide
If you’re new to CBD, you probably have a lot of questions about what it is, how it works, its safety profile, and more. This page will serve as a beginner’s guide to cannabidiol. Keep reading to learn all about this fascinating cannabinoid!
What is CBD?
CBD is a common abbreviation for cannabidiol. Cannabidiol is a natural chemical compound found in the cannabis sativa plant. CBD has been studied for various potential therapeutic uses, including relief from pain, anxiety, digestive issues and more. CBD is non-psychoactive, meaning that it cannot get you high or alter your mindstate. THC is the active mind-altering compound in cannabis, and our products contain zero THC. Where Does CBD Come From?
CBD is naturally present in the cannabis sativa plant. It’s found in small amounts in marijuana, and in higher concentrations in industrial hemp – both of which belong to the same plant family. The CBD used in our products comes exclusively from naturally grown industrial hemp, cultivated in Colorado. Our industrial hemp strains were specifically engineered to maximize CBD content while minimizing THC. This allows for a potent concentration of CBD and a near-zero THC content, and also allows us to sell our products to all 50 states. For more information, see our page on Industrial Hemp vs Marijuana.
How Does CBD Work?
The human body has a biochemical communication system known as the Endocannabinoid System. The Endocannabinoid System is thought to play a crucial role in the regulation of our health, mood, digestion, and physiology. Receptors in the human brain can respond pharmacologically to molecules found in CBD and other cannabinoids, which can trigger a wide range of reactions in the body. It is thought that the Endocannabinoid System can have a positive noticeable effect on a huge variety of health concerns, including mood and anxiety disorders, pain, cancer, obesity, movement disorders, and more. See our full guide to the endocannabinoid system to learn more!
The effects of CBD are still being studied. Progress has been slowed by the prohibition of cannabis here in the United States, but international researchers have made substantial progress towards understanding the effects of CBD and cannabinoids. Anecdotally, millions of CBD users have reported incredible effects from CBD oils. The general consensus in the alternative medicine community is that CBD shows significant promise towards addressing a massive variety of health concerns – it just may take some time for clinical science to catch up.
Is CBD Legal?
The legality of CBD oils is unfortunately quite complex. The confusion stems from the convoluted mix of federal and state laws surrounding all cannabis-derived products.
Federally, cannabis is illegal. Yet, Section 7606 of the 2014 Farm Bill established the legitimacy of industrial hemp, and distinguished it as a separate product than marijuana or cannabis. The bill defined industrial hemp as cannabis sativa that contains less than 0.3% THC on a dry-weight basis. The CBD we use in our products comes from industrial hemp that is grown under Section 7606 regulations, and compliant with both Federal and Colorado State law.
State laws vary, but at least 44 states allow CBD products for medical use under state law. Federal intervention in state cannabis laws is rare.
Despite the complicated legal status, CBD oils are available for sale almost everywhere. Even major retailers like Target, Amazon and WalMart have sold CBD products in the past, and it’s common to see CBD oils on store shelves in natural grocers and health stores.
While somewhat confusing, the bottom line is this: most of the laws relating to CBD focus on manufacturers and retailers. Law enforcement action against simple possession of CBD oil is quite rare. So long as you buy CBD oil that contains less than 0.3% THC and comes from a reputable company, you have little to worry about.
Do I Need a Prescription for CBD?
No medical documentation or prescription is required to order from NuLife.
Is There Any THC in NuLife Products?
Our natural CBD oils are produced using 100% Colorado hemp. Our farms produce hemp that has negligible amounts of THC – less than 0.3% by dry weight basis. During the extraction process, most of the THC is removed, leaving a pure CBD extract. All our products are tested to contain less than 0.3% THC by volume.
Will CBD Get Me High?
There are no psychoactive effects from CBD. THC is the active compound in cannabis that actually produces a “high”. Our products are pure CBD with less than 0.3% THC, so they will not get you high or have any sort of psychoactive effects.
How is CBD Extracted?
Our CBD oils are extracted using a proprietary technology that utilizes CO2 extraction techniques. This results in our full spectrum, broad spectrum and CBDPURE extractions, which isolates not only the CBD but also various other beneficial compounds in the industrial hemp plant. Learn More Here
