In a city of nearly 9 million people, suffice it to say that you can find just about anything in The Big Apple. Whether you need a sushi burrito at 3 a.m. or the services of a world-renowned brain surgeon, New York City delivers. But where to buy CBD in New York City?
For years, CBD and other cannabis-derived products seemed like more of a West Coast thing. Up until 2017 or so, it was practically impossible to find CBD in New York City. Today, the tables have turned, with CBD on offer in many NYC apothecaries, cafes and even bodegas!

Now that we’ve got the shameless self promotion out of the way, let’s look at other ways to buy CBD in New York City.
NYC CBD Coffee Shops
Did you know that NYC was ranked the “best coffee city in America” by WalletHub, based on a surprisingly in-depth study?
With an estimated 9 billion* coffee shops in NYC (*this is not true), there’s practically a coffee bar on every corner. And these days, it’s not uncommon to see one serving up CBD-infused cappuccinos and lattes.
Caffeine Underground in Bushwick was the first to start this trend. The hip cafe serves CBD-infused coffee and treats daily.
Several other coffee shops have now joined in on the fun, and we hope that this trend continues!
CBD Retailers in NYC
There are also several local shops selling CBD products. The quality of these suppliers varies significantly – with some offering high-grade, legitimately produced CBD, and others offering low-quality products.
We recommend doing your own research to avoid scams and low-quality products. Avoid bodegas, smoke shops and other non-specialty retailers, as they are more likely to have the lower-quality CBD.
One respected retailer is The Alchemist’s Kitchen, located at 21 East 1st Street. They are an upscale apothecary selling all sorts of herbal remedies, teas, skincare products, and more. Their products tend to be a bit pricey, but they are reputable. Green Angel CBD is another respected vendor.
If you vape, retailers like Cloud 99 Vapes sell CBD-infused vape juice. We personally do not recommend vaping CBD, but we wanted to create a complete resource for our readers.
Is CBD Legal in New York?
Like so many things related to cannabis, the answer to this question is complicated.
On a state level, CBD is legal so long as it is derived from hemp, and not marijuana (see our hemp vs marijuana guide for more information). It also must meet certain standards, like containing extremely low levels of THC.
Most CBD products you will find sold in NY will be derived from hemp. All our products here at NuLife are also hemp-derived, and contain <0.3% THC.
So, any CBD products derived from hemp are legal under NY State Law.
However, since New York has let to legalize recreational marijuana, CBD oil still technically falls under NY’s Medical Marijuana laws. So, it’s legal for medical use, but not recreational.
Like we said, it’s a bit complicated.
This all might change pretty soon, as New York prepares to legalize recreational cannabis. If Cuomo is able to push through this legislation, CBD oil of all types will become fully legal in terms of state laws. Federal laws will remain a grey zone.
